On Sept. 2-6 this year, the annual meeting of the scientific steering committee (SSC), World Weather Research Program (WWRP), WMO, was held in Geneva, Switzerland. On invitation, Miao Shiguang, the Dean of the Institute of Urban Meteorology (IUM), CMA, Beijing, and members of SSC attended the meeting.

At the meeting, we reviewed the WWRP Plan (2024-2027) progress and the annual work progress of the involved working teams, discussed work priorities for the following year, and probed into development issues such as AI application and globally collaborative field testing. Thanks to this meeting, we have gained more insights into the WWRP 2024-2027 Plan and relevant activities and learned more about the organizational structure and the manner of working of WMO. This may help us better participate in and promote international cooperation in the field of weather research including urban meteorology, and enhance China’s influence and leadership in related work.
