Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor at the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences. He researches aspects of aerosols related to weather and climate change. He serves on the Sand & Dust Storm Warning Advisory System (SDS-WAS)/WWRP SC (chair), and the Global Atmospheric Watch (GAW)/WMO SSC (member), and Atmospheric Composition Committee of the Chinese Meteorological Association (Chair). He is a lead authors of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) WG1 AR4 and AR5, and review editor of AR5 synthesis report. He also served on the editorial board of international journal "Tellus B", and as associated editor of "Atmosphere Research". He published more than 360 peer-reviewed articles, with h-index 55, and received the Nobel Peace Prize (2007 Collective Award) and the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award.
