Introduction to Beijing Meteorological Society


        Initiated by the elder generation of meteorologists including Zhu Kezhen, Tu Changwang and Zhao Jiuzhang, China Meteorological Society Beijing Branch was officially established on July 16, 1950. In November 1960, it was changed to the Meteorological Society of Beijing City by the decision of the 8th council. In 1978, it again changed its name to Beijing Meteorological Society. To this day, it has seen 21 transitions of council and now has 947 members.


       The 21st council formed in December 2020 includes 52 member units, and sets up organizations such as: secretariat of the society, committee of consultation in decision-making, professional committee of weather dynamics, professional committee of urban meteorology, popular science committee, and committee of recommendation of professionals.       

 

       Beijing Meteorological Society is mainly responsible for meteorological research, academic exchange, knowledge popularization, consulting service, evaluation of achievements, professional training, commission, editing of professional publications, etc. Over 70 years, the society has contributed a lot in high-level academic exchange, popularization of meteorological knowledge, consulting service in decision-making and technology, evaluation and transformation of scientific achievements, scientific research, training of meteorological technology, development of youth meteorologists, etc. As it grows larger and stronger, it has organized a wider range of activities and taken on tasks from China Meteorological Society as well as relevant function of Beijing Meteorological Bureau. Supported by related departments and organizations and the members and scientific and technological workers in Beijing, Beijing Meteorological Society has actively contributed to the economic construction, social development and meteorological science and technology progress in the capital city.
